Under the patronage of Mr. Gohar Nabil, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, the Cairo Directorate of Youth and Sports, headed by Mr. Mahmoud Fawzy, Director of the Cairo Directorate of Youth and Sports, launched the “Green, Eco-Friendly Youth Centers” initiative at the Youth Development Center in Zeinhom.

The initiative aims to transform youth centers into active platforms that support sustainability through tree-planting campaigns, awareness-raising activities, and workshops on recycling and sustainable development concepts, contributing to the promotion of environmental awareness among children and young people.

Civil society played a prominent role in supporting the initiative. The “Plant a Tree” Foundation, in cooperation and coordination with the Arab Office for Youth and Environment (AOYE), implemented the activities of the first day, which witnessed the planting of 50 yellow Tecoma trees. The foundation also helped coordinate educational activities aimed at promoting positive environmental behaviors. Students from the Faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University actively participated in the event, alongside a strong presence from the Cairo Cleaning and Beautification Authority, with the attendance of Eng. Amal Sadeq, Director of the Authority’s Southern Zone. The event was also honored by the participation of Mr. Islam Mohamed, Head of the Civil Associations Department at the Ministry of Local Development and Environment, as well as Eng. Ahmed Abbas.

This initiative underscores the importance of integrated efforts between government institutions and civil society, while strengthening the role of young people in protecting the environment and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
