General Objective

The primary objective is to build broad environmental awareness within the Khosous community, particularly among school children, environmental workers, and marginalized groups in the areas where they live. The project aims to improve their surrounding environmental conditions, with a specific focus on solid waste management.

Detailed Objectives

  • Enhance the relationship between the stakeholders of the solid waste management system in Khosous.
  • Implement a source-separation mechanism within one of the targeted sectors in Khosous.
  • Build the capacities of partner entities (Waste Management Unit, local administration, NGOs, schools and youth).
  • Raise environmental awareness in the targeted schools.

  • Raised awareness among nearly 1,000 residents of Khosous, through six awareness campaigns, about their essential role and the importance of their participation in addressing the solid waste issue.
  • Supported plans to improve the waste-collection system in three sectors within Khosous.
  • Implemented source-separation in approximately 500 residential units.
  • Activated the community role of five schools in Khosous.
  • Built the capacities of 16 staff members from the solid waste units in Khosous and Khanka.
  • Strengthened the institutional capacity of five local NGOs.
  • Trained and qualified approximately four companies working in waste collection.
  • Established a sustainable network among all stakeholders involved in the solid waste system in Khosous.
  • Increased the awareness of around 200 students and 10 teachers on waste separation and the environmental and economic benefits of recycling.
  • Improved the internal environment of five schools.
  • Developed a simplified guidebook for the “Environmental Guardians” groups.
